Is your biome being managed sustainably?
The Australian government is studying old growth forest to find ways of sustainably maintaining Old growth forest. The final report stated that there are 3 basic rules to abide by to ensure that the forest within Australia are being sustainably managed they are
1. Maintaining ecological processes within forests, including the formation of soil, energy flows, and the cycles of carbon, water and nutrients
2. Maintaining the biological diversity of forests
3. Optimising the full range of environmental, economic and social benefits provided to the community
Since the report came out Australian forest have seen mammoth changes for the better due to them putting the report instructions to action 15% of forests are in conservation reserves 70% of old-growth forests have been put in conservation reserves plus additional protective measures
