Biome Location in Australia
In Australia, forests need to be located in tropical locations; this means that they are almost solely along the coast of Australia, with the inland biomes being deserts and grasslands. The exception to this is Tasmania, where forests grow almost everywhere, producing some truly amazing sights.
South Australia, and Western Australia have very few forests, and Northern Territory has none due to its dry, arid climate. The forests of Western Australia are almost exclusively Jarrah forests, Jarrah wood had been logged heavily due to the exquisite quality of the wood, while Southern Australian forests can be Wirrabara, or other types.

Characteristics of Old Growth Forests:
Australia’s forests, like most forests, can range from dense Tasman rainforests to more spread out Western Australian Jarrah forests; an ‘old-growth forest’ is generally a forest that hasn’t had major unnatural impact upon it: logging and urbanisation; it also has to be several centuries old, hence the term “old-growth”.
As with any forest, there will be a good variety of plants, trees and fauna in the ecosystem, making old-growth forests the apex of biodiversity in almost any situation. Despite popular belief, most forests have the majority of life further up in the canopy; many plants cannot grow of the forest floor due to the lack of sunlight, preventing photosynthesis.
